ISHDO: An Overview
Integrated Service on Health and Development Organization (ISHDO) – Previously known as Integrated Service on AIDS Prevention and Support Organization (ISAPSO) – has long been known for its comprehensive HIV/health services since its inception. At the time of the establishment of the organization in 1997 the HIV epidemic impact reached its peak and care and support services at the community were highly needed while service delivery by government and private health structures and other non-governmental organizations were not able to meet these demands. ISHDO has been at the forefront in HIV care and treatment at the community level and has contributed to minimizing the impact of HIV in the community. ISHDO is a nonprofit human development local community-based organization dedicated to improving lives of the community in lasting ways by advancing integrated and locally-driven solutions that are evidence-based. In terms of organizational capacity, ISHDO has over 225 Staff working under various projects. It has its own office built in partnership with Similar CSOs with a land provided form Addis Ababa City administration. The office is located at Salite Mihret area at Gurdsholla in Ten sisters common CSO building. Currently managing a revenue of 5.1 million USD per year. Its governance structure consists of Board and Secretariat.
The Board is the supreme body dealing with major policy matters. The management on the other hand, is delegated to the Secretariat. ISHDO has regional offices in Oromia, SNNP and Diredawa.
The organization day to day activities is led by senior management team comprising of the Executive Director, Operations director, Project heads, Finance manager and Planning and Business development and grant and compliance managers.

Values – Transparency, Accountability, Honesty, Respect and Credibility to the community,
stakeholders and funding agencies .
ISHDO Operates in major regions of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, Diredawa, Harari regions with more than 220 professional staff that coming from a variety of disciplines, including Health, Social studies, research, behavioral and social sciences, health economics, public health programs and services, training, regulatory affairs and quality assurance, and information dissemination.
ISHDO provides community level program implementation, technical assistance, quality assurance, capacity building support to community level interventions and oversight and support local partners and community level structures.
ISHDO has been a leading community level interventions / activities including HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), Family Planning, Nutrition, Education, Civil Society, Empowering refugees and returnees, ending Harmful traditional practices ,SBCC ,MNCH, HIV prevention, OVC care and support, PMTCT, ART, ICT, condom programming, promotion of reproductive health and adolescent reproductive health services, nutritional support for children and food support for under 5 children, provision of maternal and neonatal health, water, sanitation and hygiene, prevention of gender-based violence including prevention of HTPs and reducing early girl marriages, referrals and linkage for health services and many more others.
ISHDO provides technical, managerial, and operational implementation of projects throughout Ethiopia.

ISHDO has been involved in food and nutrition programs since 2005 when ISHDO( by then named ISAPSO started implementing under Orphan Care and Support Project which was funded by Plan Int./Ethiopia in which 419 Orphans selected from Addis Ketema Sub City were provided food and nutrition supports. This intervention was continued throughout 2006 with the funding support from WFP through Addis Ababa HAPCO. Since then, ISHDO has long been involved in food and nutrition programs in Addis Ababa, Oromia and SNNPR with the funding support from WFP, Plan Int/Ethiopia and other new donors including Kerk in Acte, FHI/Ethiopia and DAI/ECI-Africa/USAID that have financed the OVC food and nutrition supports by ISHDO in different project locations. The food and nutrition program has benefited supported provided by the organization. Apart from OVCs, the food and nutrition program under ISHDO has benefitted under five children, children with acute malnourishment, bed ridden persons due to AIDS and the community members(OVC guardians and parents) through the provision of training on improved food preparation.
- Vaccine /Immunization program
- ISHDO collaborated with USAID for COVID vaccination initiative in 2022.
- The activity aims to improving access for vaccine services in selected areas with high vaccination coverage gap intervention included demand creation for COVID vaccine, combating misconceptions and facilitation of vaccine delivery through community health care workers in targeted woredas Oromia region.
- ISHDO has also collaborated with public health centers and hospital to increase demand creation in the communities for maximizing under 5 vaccination coverage through case identification and referral.

The National Social Accountability Consortium composed of 16 national local CSOs established in 29 February 2024 to implement an integrated social accountability programme, synergizing their different strengths and competencies. The majority of members of the consortium had extensive experience in implementing social accountability programs at national level in addition to integrated humanitarian and development interventions.
