Bethsaida Charity Organization (BethCO)

Bethsaida Charity Organization (BethCO) established in 2012 GC is a non-profit making humanitarian and development organization and legally registered as a local NGO with registry No.2653 as local organization in accordance with the civil society organizations proclamation No. 1113/2019. Since its establishment BethCO has been delivering humanitarian services to OVC, youths and women in Addis Ababa, Oromia, Southern Nations, Sidama and Amhara Regions.

Vision: To foster a well-developed society where orphans, vulnerable children, youth, and women have their essential needs met and possess sustainable capacities for development.

Mission: To empower vulnerable and orphaned children, youth, and women as agents of their own development in high-risk areas of Ethiopia, while respecting their social and natural environments..

Objectives:The organization has the following objectives

  • Support vulnerable children in education, health, and Psycho-social services, and help them develop into useful citizens of society.
  • Offer necessary support to disadvantaged and vulnerable youths and women to empower and help them to engage into workforce by providing entrepreneur and vocational training.
  • Protect children, youth, and women from assault and abuse in collaboration with relevant bodies, and provide awareness education to raise understanding of Gender based violences, as well as awareness of rights and obligations.
  • Provide training and advice to vulnerable children, youth, and women to protect them from HIV/AIDS and other detrimental life circumstances.
  • Assist children and youth who are living on the streets, helping them reunite with their families through teaching and counseling.
  • Provide support and care to the elderly and persons with disabilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with relevant authorities withrespect to environment protection and peace building in accordance with national and international laws.

Projects and Source of Finances

BethCO has been mobilizing resources mainly from member contributions, volunteer individuals, private support and through grant donations from funding partners. So far BethCO ha conducted the followng projects with a fund from the following partners:

  • In 2013, Communty based OVC support at Hawassa, Funded by Resource centre for civil societies group (RCCSGA), Hawassa Ethiopia.
  • In 2014-2015, “Sustainable life support for venerable Street children”. Funded by British Council in partner with RCCSGA.
  • In 2017-2018, Community based sustainable OVC and PLHIV support project at Hawassa city, SNNPR, Ethiopia, Funded by U.S. Embassy PEPFAR Community grant fund (P7)
  • In 2020-2021, Strengthening Community Systems for Better Linkage to Testing, Care and Treatment through Transparent and Accountable Service Provision in Hawassa, Funded by U.S. Embassy PEPFAR Community grant fund (PEPFAR 2020)
  • In 2020- 2021, Empowering Disadvantaged women to improve their livelihood through joint community based  support response, Funded by Facilitator for  Change (FC), Addi Ababa
  • August 2021-February 2023, “Multi-sector engagement for Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response targeting young women and girls working in Hawassa City Industrial Park & neighbouring communities”, Funded by The Embassy of France to Ethiopia and the African Union.
  • March 2022- August 2023, Improving Livelihoods of at-Risk Children, Girls and Women Living in Peri-Urban Areas of Hawassa City, Sidama Region, Funded by Austrian Development Agency
  •  June 2022-May 2023 Empowering disadvantaged women through IGA in peri Urban area of Hawassa city ,Sidama Region,Funded by Plan international Ethiopa.
  • July 2022- April 2023Improving mental health and Psychosocial wellbeing of women mother and Children affected by ethnc confflict  in Afrata and Gidim woreda, of North Shewa Zone. Funded by Authority for Civil Socity Oreganization.(ACSO).
  • May 2023 – December 2024, Services to Improve the Economic, Educational and Social Re-Integration of Addis Ketema Sub-City Women with Children through Providing Basic Social and Livelihood Services, Funded by Ministry of Women and Social Affairs (MoWSA), Ethiopia
  • April 2025 toadate. Empowering Marginalized Communities in Akaki Kality through Inclusive Services, Funded by Czech Embassy.Addis Ababa

Leadership

BethCO is led by board system composed of five members. With regard to management practices of BethCO, it has a well-defined line of authority operating in line with the mission and vision with participatory decision making through ensuring transparency and accountability.
